My name is Steph Sinnott, and I run Baby Body Fit, Ireland’s leading Pre and Post Natal Exercise company. We provide prenatal exercise classes with a difference – a strength and toning class designed just for pregnant women. Then bring your baby along to our postnatal fitness and weight loss classes, eliminating the need for a babysitter.
I started the business in 2011, with the aim of helping pregnant women and new mothers in their exercise and weight maintenance/loss lifestyles. The business has gone from strength to strength, with locations in Dublin, Cork and Galway, and a team of 7, teaching high quality prenatal strength and toning classes, and postnatal exercise and weight loss classes.
I was always unfit and unhappy with my body, something that wasn’t helped when backpacking around Australia. I became pregnant at 23, and after Aoibhe was born, I wanted to look and feel better about myself, so I started running and doing some sit ups at home. I wanted to learn more about the right type of exercise to do, and so I decided to go back to college, to study personal training when Aoibhe was 6 months old. It turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made! After almost 3 years of working in gyms, it was time to go out on my own and start a fitness business that was close to my heart – training pregnant women and new mothers.
During my second pregnancy, I knew I had to practice what I preach, and keep fit and active. I went for the usual walks, but kept up my weight training, adapting exercises as I needed to. Being fit made a huge difference to my pregnancy, but especially my labour. Aoibhe’s birth was long and difficult, and I was nervous the whole time. This time, almost 7 years later, the labour and birth were a walk in the park. I was prepared, mentally and physically, and knew that my body was able for it. I can honestly say that giving birth to my second, Alex, was a lot easier, and faster, than my first. I put this down to having a stronger body, and the frame of mind I was in, believing and knowing that my body could handle a lot.
I hope that you find this programme useful, and that you get out of it as much as I, and hundreds of my clients, already have.
